So you got many users who use the Software for free, learn the software, maybe being professional with it, and there you go, a new customer moneybag which use YOUR Software instead of using something else. Not that they couldn't make it very complicated, but they don't do it. Just watch how easy all the Adobe products you can get. The one from the usual guys, and then the "crack" out of the marketing department. They are two different types of "cracks". They're leaving themselves options should they need them, but so far they haven't. Free upgrades have kept everyone else extremely happy with pixologic so they also have the word of mouth of most artists. Every new year of graduates /students /hobbyists who pick up the software adds to their user base and keeps money ticking in. Right now though, zbrush is the answer to the question of where should u sculpt digitally. I would imagine they don't outright state it in plain text because if it gets the the point where there's not enough new users coming in, they'll have no choice but to charge users. I dont work for pixologic obviously, so this is only my own assumptions on the matter, so grain of salt the following: But obviously u didn't and that definitely sucks, and with this news it's also up in the air how long it will continue :( Yep you sure could have, I'm surprised u didn't hear about it earlier its been one of the main praises sang about pixologic and zbrush. More things happened, he had some interesting ideas that got rejected one after the other, and he got left to fix small bugs instead of improving Blender.Įdit: This was his last attempt to improve something, allow Blender to polypaint/vertex paint in Blender with speed akin to the sculpting suite (it was TERRIBLY slow), but he never managed to get past bureaucracy hell on this one, the bosses at the BF where more concerned about 100% code correctness and writing tons of pointless stuff rather than improving an area that needed improving. Even for photorealistic sculpting and likeness.īut the endless whining and nagging perhaps took a toll in him. He spent tons of energy defending himself of that, and I am at his side here, he was making a better blender, and his work allowed Blender to reach heights it never dreamt of. A bit of both, people was criticising him stating that he was creating Blender Sculpting just to make anime girls instead of 500M tris for movies.
